“I write for those women who do not speak, for those who do not have a voice because they were so terrified, because we are taught to respect fear more than ourselves. We’ve been taught that silence would save us, but it won’t” – Audre Lorde

  1. I love this post. I love Audre Lorde. I really do. One of the few books that I have on poetry is a collected works of her poetry and I did a presentation on her and her poetry in my Women Poets of the World class in college. Thanks for the reminder that we all need to speak up and use our voice, silence does not protect us.

Good and healing thoughts to you.

      • I had read some of her poetry and was really struck by her work and her political stance. Then I saw an episode about her on POV, Point of View, on PBS, probably in 1998. wow that was quite a while ago. It aired after her death, and I didn’t know a lot about her, during the show I fell madly in love with her and then cried at the end thinking she was gone. That was when I was taking the women poets class and that is how I ended up getting her book and doing the presentation.

I’m so glad that you have found her as well. She is incredible and an incredible artist.

Good and healing thoughts to you.
